Published on the occasion of the exhibition Catherine Camargo, Frederic Snitzer, & Fared Manzur at Rice Hotel, this essay traces three sustained encounters through the exhibition's architecture of sound, language, and observation. Moving between personal reflection and close looking, the text approaches each artist through a different mode of attention, allowing memory, perception, and proximity to shape its course. Rather than offering fixed interpretations, the essay remains with what accumulates between objects, people, and place. With installation views and reproductions of select artworks, the publication extends the encounter beyond the rooms of Rice Hotel.

Primary (Est. 2007) is a context and research-driven curatorial collective with an emphasis on public art. We thrive amongst the self-taught, working-class misfits, who explore the margins of a new Americana through pungent, human-focused narratives. Our program engages with the raw and uncanny, celebrating border voices, bootleg culture, and intergenerational commentary, connecting the new and unseen with broader audiences and evolving collections.
