Luis Edgar Mejicanos

Primary is pleased to present timeout, a solo exhibition of new paintings by New York-based artist Luis Edgar Mejicanos.
Opening on Saturday, April 20, the exhibit will remain on view through May 19, 2024.

Offering a poignant exploration of childhood longing, vulnerability, and the complexity of human emotion, Luis Edgar Mejicanos's blend of sentimentality and vibrancy invites viewers to reflect on their own experiences of youth and self-discovery.

In this selection of paintings, Mejicanos channels a younger version of himself, infusing each work with micro-moments of rebellion and innocence. The whimsical imagery serves as a window into the artist's psyche, capturing the universal desire to break free from societal expectations and embrace the beauty of imperfection.

At the heart of Mejicanos's art lies a deeply personal journey of healing and self-acceptance. Through his playful yet introspective compositions, he confronts the pressures of conformity and the complexities of adult emotions with honesty and vulnerability.

Mejicanos's paintings act as portals to a time of innocence and wonder while simultaneously confronting the realities of adulthood; a celebration of resilience, optimism, and the power of embracing the inner child.
