INSTALLATION VIEW.

PRIMARY is pleased to announce the opening of “Future No.1” (Fill the Void). A site specific, public art installation during Miami Art Week from Chicago based visual artist, Cody Hudson.

For this installation, Hudson is producing large text-based works attached to a series of stacked and connected shipping containers designed by Primary. This temporary open sculpture allows the viewer to walk through or pause in its interior, immersed in the observations and directives from Cody Hudson. Hudson’s “Future No. 1” (Fill the Void) aims to slow one down and invites reflection and conversation during one’s complicated day. Each viewer is able to become a part of the piece as they interpret what these open-ended messages and statements mean to them. Taking cues from a diverse array of subjects including utopian and dystopian culture, psychoactive plants, motivational speakers, & the serigraphic works of Sister Mary Corita Kent, Hudson synthesizes the high & low and the public & private into a melodic barrage of poetic messaging.

With this installation, Redsky celebrates CUBE WYNWD, the first newly-constructed boutique office-over-retail building, which is inspired by the industrial vernacular of Wynwood and the subtropical climate of the region. CUBE WYNWD was designed from the inside-out to tell a story about sustainability in an art-centric urban context.

Cody Hudson’s “Future No.1” (Fill The Void) is the second incarnation of PRIMARY’s WORDS TRAVEL FAST (WTF) public art initiative, a program that invites artists to address the public through large scale installation steeped in the written word. Hudson combines elemental shapes and poetic text to create compositions that present disarmingly confessional messages in accessible ways.

“We have always been attracted to Cody Hudson’s execution of color, shape and text as well as his ominous optimism,” said Books Bischof, PRIMARY founder and principal. “We’re excited to see the response to this public installation, right now seems like a good moment in time for an experiment in communication.”

Cody Hudson is a Chicago based artist, also known for his graphic design contributions under the name Struggle Inc. His graphic work and paintings have been exhibited throughout the US, Europe and Japan including the Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago), New Image Art (LA), Rocket Gallery (Tokyo), The Lazy Dog (Paris), & Andrew Rafacz (Chicago). He is also a partner in the Michelin Star rated Longman & Eagle restaurant and a founding partner in the Land and Sea Dept creative group.
